WEST BRIDGFORD 2ND XV 50
LINCOLN IMPS XV 0
BY JOSEPH VERNEY
Lincoln Imps XV’s season ended in frustration after a 50-0 defeat away against a well-drilled West Bridgford side.
Lincoln had enjoyed a great spell of form since the turn of the year, winning 6 and drawing one of their 10 matches in 2019, but it just wasn’t their day in Nottinghamshire.
West Bridgford crossed for three unanswered tries to build up a commanding 21-0 lead going in at the break.
The hosts added a further five tries in the second half to secure an emphatic victory, but captain James Johnson was still able to pick out some positives after the frustrating result.
Johnson said: "We performed a lot better this time against the team that comfortably beat us earlier in the season.
“Three to four of their tries were off one phase so it could have been a different game if we stopped them.
“We dominated them in the scrum as well as the line-out, however when they got the ball out in the backs and, with the aid of a few mistakes, they managed to pick up a few easy tries.
“It was a season of two halves with the first half of the season being difficult to get a consistent team out. However, the second half was a lot better and we started to play the team we are and got quite a few victories.
“It has also been an honour to captain the team this season for the club I have played for 12 years.”
