Lincoln Rugby Club celebrate with end-of-season awards

Joseph Verney

A big well done to everyone!

Lincoln Rugby Club’s 2025/26 senior campaign drew to a close with a celebration at the annual end-of-season awards and Rux to Tux event.

It has been a season of transition and development with a long list of Colts making their senior debuts, as well as some strong league performances and cup silverware.

Lincoln’s Men’s 1st XV finished their first season under new Head Coach Matt Mcclurg in seventh position in Counties 1 Midlands East (North). They then ended the season in style with silverware after scoring four tries in a hard-fought 35-21 victory over Mellish in the NLD Shield Final.

It was an improved season for Lincoln’s Imps XV, who finished fifth in Counties 4 Midlands East (North East), including memorable results like the emphatic 81-7 win at Mellish and 59-12 victory against Nottingham Casuals.

It was a mixed bag for the Men’s 3rd XV, including some great wins over rivals Market Rasen, and the threes will be captained by Darren Rorie next season. The biggest positive was seeing the promising Colts players getting their first taste of senior rugby, and some making their debuts for the first team.

Lincoln Ladies had another fantastic season and, for the first time in their history, fielded two senior women’s teams with huge commitment and dedication shown by all the players.

The Ladies’ 1st XV achieved their highest-ever league finish by securing the runners-up spot in Women’s NC 1 North (South) after taking the title challenge right to the final game of the season.

The Ladies’ 2nd XV enjoyed a fantastic debut season in the Allianz Inner Warrior Series, and next season will enter into NC3 which is a superb achievement.

The prestigious Clubman of the Year Award was given to Sam Cave for his “all-round attitude and approach to the club”.

Lincoln Coach Dave Rose-Allen said: “Sam has really set the standard this season and been a true representative of the ‘one club mentality’.

“He’s played for all three men’s teams and consistently played and trained every week. He’s supported teammates and displayed the standards and culture that we expect and aim for.

“Having also previously been captain, he’s a constant contact for support and would bleed white, red and green. Sam is a great example and a credit to the club.”
