Lincoln’s 2nd XV made the coaching team and all of the rugby club proud as they stepped out onto the pitch for their first ever league game.

It was a huge day on Sunday as for the first time in their history Lincoln put two women’s teams out on the same day and there was a lot of heart and spirit on show at Longdales Park.

Lincoln enjoyed good spells of possession, good structure and looked threatening at times in the first half.

After Pontefract had scored three tries, Lincoln saw a good effort held up over the line and another was unluckily spilled close to try line.

A good tactical move in the second half set up Cindy Coleburt, who was named as Lincoln’s Forward of the Match, and she ran from halfway to score the 2nd XV’s first ever league try.

Pontefract had a few standout players that were able to find gaps in the home defence and run around it, but there were also plenty of positives for the hosts.

The Ladies showed grit and determination and some players were playing out of position or trying new positions, including new fly-half Lily Lamplugh, who was named as Lincoln’s Back of the Match.

Connie Suffield was playing at inside centre for the first time and Ife Bosede at full-back. Captain Claire HC even stood in at scrum time as hooker due to some injuries and availability of front rowers, and Coleburt played at Number Eight.

Zoe Harper put in a great performance to be named as Opposition Player of the Match, while Jasmine Portergill-Smith and Jess Smith both impressed on their debuts for the club.

After the match Lincoln’s 2nd XV Coach Hev Lamming said: “The Ladies can be proud of themselves. Some great individual efforts and overall team work.

“Our lineout was strong and our structure going forward was good.

“We know where the try line is now so I’m sure there will be more to come. Plenty of positives and some things to work on.”
