Lincolnshire Lancers showed great heart and spirit despite some difficult results seeing them finish sixth in their fourth Series Day of the season in Chester earlier this month.

After a tough 5-1 defeat against Birmingham Longhorns in their opening match, the Lancers bounced back with a battling 3-3 draw against Nottingham Hurricanes, which includes tries for Jamie Walmsley and vice captain Orion Fergie.

Captain Ashley Vamplew scored a try as the Lancers picked up another draw - 2-2 - against Coventry Corsairs.

A high-scoring thriller then saw the Lancers narrowly defeated 6-4 against Chester Centurions, including a brace of tries for Vamplew and one from Joe Haggo.

The Lancers ran out of steam in the remaining games, but still showed plenty of heart, as they lost 9-1 and 8-1 against Sheffield Vulcans and Preston Typhoons respectively.

Captain Vamplew and vice captain Fergie said: “The day didn’t quite go the way we’d hoped, but spirts remained high throughout the day. The blazing weather didn’t help.”

They also wanted to give a special shoutout to the Lancers’ Player of the Day Paul Memmory-Evans, adding: “Paul effortlessly adjusted to any position on the pitch and tactics that were thrown his way.

“Paul also provided amazing support both on and off the pitch, making amazing plays and helping to keep team morale high.


“Paul perfectly embodied what it is to be a Lancer and couldn’t have done us more proud.”


The Lancers will now be focussing their attention on their last Series Day of the season in Leeds on September 5, 2026.
