Lincolnshire Lancers finished their season in third place after an array of determined performances in the final Series Day in Leeds.

The Lancers battled hard in their opening match with captain Ash Vamplew scoring a try in a 6-2 defeat against Sheffield Vulcans.

The Thebans, a guest team on the day, were the Lancers’ next opponents and the match ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw, including tries from Vamplew and Logan Teague.

Vamplew and Teague were both among the try scorers again as the Lancers were narrowly beaten 4-3 by Coventry Corsairs.

The Lancers bounced back in style as a brace of tries from Teague helped them to an impressive 5-2 victory over Nottingham Hurricanes. Rich Green and Vamplew also scored tries, while Emily Nekrews, Adam Bowers, Hanna Husband and Will Ryland all providing assists.

Another high-scoring match following as a Vamplew brace, and one from Green, helped the Lancers to a 4-4 draw against Birmingham Longhorns.

The Lancers finished the tournament with a difficult match against Preston Typhoons, with Nekrews setting up a try for Teague in a 6-2 defeat.

Captain Vamplew said: “It was my final Series Day as captain and I want to say a massive well done to all of the team.

“I’m incredibly proud of the Lancers, not just for the Leeds Series Day, but for the whole season and beyond.

“They’ve all played their absolute hearts out, and that team effort over the months secured us third place this year which is a fantastic result.”


Vamplew was also named as the Lancers’ Player of the Tournament. Normally, this accolade is chosen by the captain, but it was different this time, with several players nominating him to vice captain Orion Fergie for his “commitment on and off the pitch, along with his excellent communication with the team.”
